Yumiko Uno is a co-founder and designer of Etrican, the pioneer label of eco fashion in Singapore. She was born in Singapore then grew up in Yokohama and attended UWCSEA after her family moved back to Singapore. She holds a BA in International Studies and an MA in Development Studies from the University of Leeds, UK. Before starting Etrican, Yumiko worked in the fashion industry in Tokyo for several labels including People Tree Japan, one of the pioneers of sustainable fashion. 

She moved to Singapore in 2010 to start this sustainable fashion brand that only uses GOTS certified organic cotton and facilities from India, designing women's and kids clothing lines featuring accessible designs, affordable clothing,  and traceability working in direct partnership with responsible factories. Yumiko is a Winner of The Finder’s Expatpreneur Award 2018.

Yumiko’s interpreteing career in Singapore began at 2013 Audi Fashion Week where she was hired to assist one of the Japanese designers during his presentation and Q&A session. She is now an established conference interpreter who travels and works regionally from Melbourne, Dubai to Hanoi and of course in Japan. 

She particularly enjoys IT and digital related simultaneous interpreting in translation booths working with a partner, describing it as an exciting environment. She is also experienced in the field of international affairs, beauty/travel retail, medical and finance.
